Surfactants and foaming agents certainly cleanse the hair, but they are often too aggressive and alter the hydrolipidic film of the skin, which is essential for the health of the skin and hair.
The hydrolipidic film, as we have explained several times, is a protective barrier that isolates our skin from external agents such as smog, cold, heat, air, pathogens, and bacteria, also regulating hydration.
It retains water within the skin, preventing evaporation and dehydration.
When the hydrolipidic film is damaged, water evaporates, and the skin dries out, leading to skin flaking (dry skin patches that peel off), itching, redness, and daily discomfort.
With each wash, not using the right products will worsen these discomforts. In fact, an aggressive shampoo will continue to alter the hydrolipidic film, making the skin dry and inflamed.
Aggressive surfactants not only alter the skin barrier but also attack the keratin of the hair, altering its physiological functions, thus gradually drying out the hair itself.
It's a vicious cycle. The more aggressive products are used, the drier the hair becomes, and it will be increasingly necessary to use nourishing and moisturizing conditioners and masks to have shiny, soft, and voluminous hair.
On the contrary, using the right products, the hair does not dry out continuously, remaining soft and shiny without the need to keep using nourishing treatments.
